What we collect when you read or subscribe, why, and your choices.
What we collect
When you subscribe to the Side Gig Wire newsletter we collect:
- Your email address (required) and first name (optional)
- Your preferences, if you give them: the language you’d like to read in, and any messaging apps you’d like issues sent to
- A record of your consent: the date and time you signed up and confirmed, the page you signed up on, and the IP address and browser used. We keep this to show that you asked to receive the newsletter.
- Basic email activity: whether an issue was delivered, opened, and which links were clicked. We use this to keep our list healthy and to learn what readers find useful.
If you subscribe to Pro, our payment processor collects your payment details; we don’t see or store your card number.
Cookies
We set one cookie, and only after you’ve subscribed or arrived from one of our emails: it remembers that you’re a reader, so we don’t ask you to subscribe again. We don’t use advertising or analytics trackers. See our cookie notice.
How we use it
To send you the newsletter you asked for, in your language, to send occasional service messages about your subscription, to measure what’s useful, and to keep our mailing list clean (for example, removing addresses that bounce). We send the newsletter only to people who confirmed their subscription by clicking a link in a confirmation email.
Who we share it with
We never sell, rent or trade your information. We use service providers to run the newsletter (our email platform, SendingRight, and our email delivery service), and for Pro, a payment processor. They process your information only on our behalf. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe at any time with the one-click link in every email. It takes effect right away.
- Change your settings (language, messaging apps) from Manage your subscription.
- Access, correction or deletion: email editors@sidegigwire.com to ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Retention
We keep your subscription details while you’re subscribed. After you unsubscribe we keep your address on a suppression list, so we don’t email you again by mistake, along with the consent record where the law requires it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll update the date above and tell subscribers in the newsletter.
